A few years ago I attended a wonderful talk by Dr Gassmann. He has put together a template of the 55 patterns – these mostly relate to revenue models but are a quick way to look at what is your current and future business model.
For example you can see Microsoft is shifting from a licence sale to a subscription model.
Adrian J. Slywotzky in his book Value Migration also put some excellent patterns related to how industries evolve as customer priorities change.
Both of these ways at looking at patterns in your industry will help you take a different perspective
